Family friendly Instituto Chac-Mool Spanish School!

In addition to their popular adult Spanish Immersion program, Instituto Chac-Mool in Cuernavaca also offers a children's Spanish program. This family friendly Spanish immersion school has native speaking teachers experienced in teaching these young language learners. Classes are fun and educational at the same time. Classes are weekdays 8:50 am to 1:50 pm, just like the adult program. Children may join in on the optional weekend cultural excursion with parental supervision. And for after class time, the school's own swimming pool is fun for everyone.

Programa Amiguitos Ages 4-12

Introduce your child to the Spanish language and culture of Mexico with Programa Amiguitos at Instituto Chac-Mool. In this day camp type program, children learn Spanish words and phrases through educational, yet fun activities. With emphasis on cultural immersion, the thematic approach assures that each student is challenged at their own level utilizing diverse themes such as animals, ecology, and ocean life. As part of the learning process the children may make items such as Maya and Aztec calendars, bark paintings, masks and Aztec headdresses, play soccer, and learn how to protect our planet. All activities are age appropriate and classes are limited to 8 children per qualified children's instructor. 2009 rate $155 per week plus registration fee.

Junior Spanish Program Ages 7-12

More demanding than the Programa Amiguitos, the Junior Spanish Program has been created for children who have had previous exposure to Spanish, such as speaking it at home or participating in a dual immersion program at school.

The Junior Program offers a balanced 25 hour weekly schedule during the same hours as the adult program. It combines structure and role play activities with workshops, social activities, sports, and with parental approval, guided field trips. The program has an academic foundation with a strong emphasis on developing communication skills in Spanish. To be able to assimilate well into a high school Spanish class we recommend a three or four week program, however students may enroll for as short as one week.

The size of each group is no larger than 6 students per specially trained instructor. All students are placed in a small group based on their Spanish ability determined by an oral interview on the first day of class. We recommend 12 year olds enroll in the teen classes (although not required). This very special Junior Spanish Program is offered year round. 2009 rate $220 per week plus registration fee.

Teen Spanish Program Ages 12-17

Teens are welcome at Instituto Chac-Mool year round, however in addition to our adult and children's programs, a special Spanish immersion course for teens is scheduled for June 15 to August 14, 2009. Since the emphasis is on learning Spanish, students will be required to speak Spanish not just during class time, but also during all activities. This situational practice is an important part of the learning process. 2009 rate $235 per week plus registration fee.
