  • Las Lenas in Las Palmas submitted by Abel

If you are craving a nice piece of steak cooked to perfection over coal, I really suggest heading to Las Lenas in Las Palmas, Cuernavaca. This is an Argentine restaurant, I think the owners immigrated from there and brought along their country's secrets to perfect meat. Not only is the food amazing (think steak, sausage, sweet breads, empanadas, chimichuri, etc....accompanied by a cold beer...or better yet a glass of red wine) but the restaurant is very charming, nice decor, and relaxed atmosphere.

  • El Madrigal in Colonia Vista Hermosa submitted by Karin

I recommend this fresh air restaurant for a time when you have an afternoon or evening to relax and experience fine dining with attentive service. The chef at El Magrigal offers a reinterpretation of more traditional Mexican dishes in a beautiful and serene setting.

We started out on the patio drinking tangy margaritas for at least two hours while enjoying chips with blue cheese dip (we appreciated not being rushed to the dining room)! After moving to our dining table my friends and I experienced the best food we've had in Cuernavaca so far (now at the end of our week long trip). From the white asparagus salad to the fresh shrimp and scallops, our first course just tempted us for what was to come. Huachinango Madrigal was my choice and my husband, craving a steak, opted for the perfectly cooked Filet Mignon. Our friends had the spicy Adobo Pork dish that their friends raved about after an earlier visit. Portions were generous and the price high, but reasonable for food and service of this quality. I give this restaurant an A+ and we thank owner Ruben Cerda for his great hospitality and a great dining experience.

  • Las Mañanitas downtown submitted by Sherry

When I think of Cuernavaca, I crave Las Mañanitas and I never miss going when I'm in town...sometimes more than once a trip. I enjoy sitting outside watching the cranes and peacocks stroll among people lolling in this garden oasis. I can't think of a more perfect setting for relaxing...drinking...dining... and sharing stories with friends. Almost 40 years ago my husband and his family would dine here, and I imagine not much has changed inside the thick walls surrounding this hotel and restaurant. Las Mañanitas Margaritas are my favorite in the world. I believe it is the freshness of the lime and the warming tequila, but maybe I'm influenced by the atmosphere of this stunning place. I'm not a 'foodie' so am not the best person to recommend particular dishes, however I've had good steaks, fresh fish, satisfying Mexican food and tried some appetizers I couldn't remember the names of if I had to! I've never had an unsatisfying meal here, or bad service. Quite the opposite, staff has always been attentive, and the food always good. But even if it wasn't, I'm sure I'd be back for more of those margaritas!

  • El Faisán on Avenida Zapata submitted by Harriet

For good Yucatecan food we like El Faisán, on Avenida Zapata. The Papadzules, relleno negro, panuchos, etc. are all excellent. Of course they serve the very hot habanero sauce, so be careful. They also have typical desserts and my favorite is the 'papaya en dulce' . There is an elaborate process to prepare this dessert. To honor the Day of the Dead don't miss the big tamal they make only on this date. It is called mucbi pollo (not sure of the spelling).

Service is excellent and the place is spotless. The hostess is always dressed in a beautiful Huipil from the Yucatan area.

  • Gaia at Benito Juarez 102 off the zocalo

Just a couple of blocks from the Palacio de Cortés the elegant Restaurante Gaia is housed in a luxurious villa that was once home to the Mexican movie star known as Cantiflas. Lunch and dinner is served daily and features a delicate and delicious pairing of Mexican and Mediterranean cuisine. Recommended dishes include Shrimp with the Tamarind Sauce, Ravioli with Portobello Mushrooms, and Chile Rellenos. Dine indoors or outdoors along side the mosaic swimming pool, its design attributed to Mexican artist and muralist Diego Rivera.
